HISTORY
Currently I am engaged in the preparation of professional structural drawings for various engineering firms and building contractors. I am also involved with several fabrication shops on projects ranging from steel structures in residential buildings to industrial seagoing barges. I continue to provide residential building design and drafting services.
2010 - 2016 – To meet the needs of a changing economy around 2010, I shifted the direction of my business to focus more on designing single family dwellings and recreational cottages. I also began producing structural drawings for engineering firms. The connection with engineering companies opened the door to produce detailed shop drawings for steel fabrication companies. Although the new focus of the business was design and drafting, the process would often result in following through with construction management agreements.
2005 - 2010 – During this period I was involved with the upgrades to a Regional District Aquatic Centre. As part of the initial design and cost analysis team, I was successful in becoming the construction manager and saw the 1.25 million dollar project through to completion. For this project I prepared initial “as built” drawings for design and budget purposes as well as numerous layout and fabrication drawings. Also during this time I was commissioned to design and build high end homes for some very discerning clients with budgets over one million dollars. I attended BCIT for training in computer aided drafting (CAD).
2000 – 2005 – I became a licensed building contractor. During this time I added building design services to my construction business and successfully designed and built a variety of residential and smaller commercial projects.
1985 – 2000 – This is a lengthy span that held many different projects with varying degrees of experience. I was involved in large multi unit residential and commercial complexes in Whistler and the Lower Mainland, an eight storey concrete structure in Vancouver, various commercial buildings on the Sunshine Coast as well as more custom single family homes. Many of these projects were built using prefabrication methods. I prepared hundreds of layout and assembly drawings to lead the forming and framing crews.
1980 – 1985 – I started my construction business in 1985. Prior to that my lessons in the building industry began as a labourer, carpenter, and lead hand with a very hard driving, efficient construction company on the Sunshine Coast.
